A message from Governing Board Chairman Susan Hughes Seminole County submitted a permit application on Sept. 10, 2004, to the St. Johns River Water Management District requesting a 20-year consumptive use permit for 7.25 million gallons of water per day to augment its reclaimed water and potable groundwater supply systems. A lawsuit has been filed against the St. Johns River Water Management District alleging violations of the Sunshine Law in connection with a meeting of its Governing Board on April 13, 2009. At that meeting, the Governing Board conducted a quasi-judicial proceeding under Chapter 120 of the Florida Statutes, Florida’s Administrative Procedures Act (“APA”). Read more...

For more than 15 years, the St. Johns River Water Management District has been working with water supply utilities to identify and implement new water supplies to supplement groundwater supplies. On April 13, the District’s Governing Board approved a permit for Seminole County to withdraw water from the St. Johns River to augment its reclaimed water system and to supplement its drinkable groundwater supply. In using limited supplies of water from the St. Johns River, Seminole County will join the city of Melbourne, which has been using water from the river for nearly 50 years to meet public water supply needs. In addition, industry has used water at various locations along the river, with the largest uses in Duval County. Read more...

Late Monday January 12, a Hearing Officer issued his judgment regarding the challenge to our permit to use water from the St. Johns River.
