Water Sources

Groundwater

canoeing on riverGroundwater has historically provided Floridians with high quality, reliable and inexpensive drinking water. The Floridan aquifer is one of the most prolific aquifers in the world. Each day, Floridians use about 2.5 billion gallons of water from the Floridan aquifer, with most of that water being used by agriculture followed by public supply, industrial users and power generating facilities.

But, like the rest of Florida, our days of cheap new water are gone. To protect our lakes, springs and wetlands, we must conserve the water we have, and find alternative sources of water.
